Known Medicine

Known Medicine is building an engine to determine the best treatment for every cancer patient.  We’re a seed-stage startup backed by Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, Cota Capital, Caffeinated Capital, and other top funds and angels. Our team encompasses clinical affairs, bioengineering, and data science and is quickly growing.

Our core platform utilizes patient tumor samples which are broken down and made into hundreds of 3D micro-tumors. We treat each with different drugs and combinations then use complex image analysis to determine tumor sensitivity to each. Through the marriage of biology and data science we are able to generate the largest 3D cell culture dataset of its kind and use it to make biological, computational and clinical insights.

Your Role

As a Scientist on our team, your responsibilities include:

  • Oversee and operate our high-throughput 3D screening platform
  • Design custom assays for measuring the response of tumor cells to treatment
  • Pioneer methods for scaling and automating drug screens on primary tissue samples
  • Work side by side with platform development and data scientists to identify top drug candidates for personalized cancer therapy
  • Collaborate with us in building out and mentoring our growing biology team

Your Background

  • PhD in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or similar
  • 3+ years cancer biology with experience in cell culture
  • Track record of leading teams and projects to advance a scientific agenda
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and collaborate with multidisciplinary experts
  • Familiarity with drug discovery biology and/or cancer pharmacology
  • Experience with 3D cell culture or organoid development (preferred)
  • Familiarity with automation and high throughput systems (preferred)

Who You’ll Join

Our team consists of biomedical engineers, AI and data scientists, clinical and regulatory affairs experts, and cancer biology experts working to design and expand the capabilities of our high throughput platform. We’re developing a fully automated diagnostics pipeline in our 7,000 sq ft Sale Lake City, UT lab and have research collaborations with several top cancer centers. We offer health insurance, snacks and drinks in the office, lunch provided three times per week, and flexible vacation/sick leave.
