Our Mission

Known Medicine is finding the right treatment for every cancer patient and the right drug for every cancer. We run experiments at scale in our automated lab, built to enable better machine learning based predictions over time.

The Role

We’re generating millions of images of cells, many with labeled outcomes of whether the patient actually responded to treatment. We need infrastructure to support our growing datasets, enable increasingly sensitive predictions, ensure our patient data is protected, and drive data-informed platform improvements. You’ll have the opportunity to have a massive impact on our software systems and wear plenty of hats as we build out our team.  You’ll work directly with biologists and data scientists to build robust and interconnected systems aimed at improving the lives of cancer patients.

You will be joining a small technical team of data scientists and engineers. Your responsibilities include:

Build tools to clarify biology: empower non-technical teams to design experiments for our automated systems and distill complex biological results into actionable outcomes.

Enable scale: we will be running thousands of experiments every week. This means we need tools built for scale, from artifact storage to sample tracking dashboards to analysis pipelines.

Develop trustworthy results:  the tools you build and the coding practices you use set the tone for what we can do. We are building for consistent results and tools that allow us transparency into our scientific processes.

Your Background

  • 3+ years experience in full stack software engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Experience in Python with adaptability to use other programming languages
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on deadlines, collaborate well with cross-functional teams, and communicate effectively with the larger company
  • Experience designing and implementing distributed, event-driven systems

Who You’ll Join

Our 14-person team has backgrounds in bioengineering, drug discovery, tech, and clinical affairs. We’re avid runners, hikers, hobbyists, human (and dog) parents, and big fans of the Mountain West.

We’re building out a fully automated pipeline in our Salt Lake City, UT lab and have research collaborations with several top cancer centers to receive and process patient samples. We offer health insurance, snacks and drinks in the office, lunch provided 3x weekly, and flexible vacation/sick leave.

Known Medicine

Known Medicine is building an engine to determine the best treatment for every cancer patient.  We’re a seed-stage startup with backers including Y Combinator, Caffeinated Capital, and Khosla Ventures.
